Community Commitment

Founded in 2015, the San Pedro Fish Market Scholarship program started as a way to tell inspiring stories about the harbor community through the eyes of its future leaders. The method is simple; students from local high schools are invited to create a short video showcasing what they love most about their community. Winners are then selected based on which videos from each high school received the most views.

Details below for the San Pedro Fish Market 2018 YouTube Scholarship Contest:
As in years past, the student from each school with the most views for their YouTube video expressing what they love about their community and their school will win the contest for each school and a $1,000 scholarship.  Here are the other details:

1. All entries must be coordinated with the school to help insure that the content is respectful and appropriate to the school's mission.

2. All entries must be posted to YouTube and comply with all YouTube rules for their service, including trademarks and organically generating video views.

3. All entries need to clearly identify in the first ten seconds of the video that the video was produced as an entry for the "San Pedro Fish Market 2018 Scholarship Contest".

4. All entries need to be hash tagged with #spfmscholarship, the name of their high school also as a hashtag (ex. #MSHS, #PBHS, #POLAHS, #SPHS, #PVHS, #PVPHS, #RHPHS) and we would advise  #spfmfish as well.

Over the last four years, we have provided more than $20,000 in scholarships and prizes to every participant in each year's contest, which has generated over 125,000 online views of our local kids talking about how special our communities and schools are to them.

Entries that qualify with the above rules and are posted between January 19 and March 1, 2018 will be counted as part of the contest.  The videos with the most views by March 31, 2018 while complying with the contest rules will receive their scholarship award at a celebration at the Market in mid-April.  We will coordinate with all participating high schools on a convenient afternoon in April to invite all of the participants.

Congratulations to Our 2017 Winners!
