Founded by Mackey Ungaro, his son Henry, and his nephew Tommy Amalfitano, San Pedro Fish Market opened the doors to its first location in 1956, originally called Vista Seafood. Then, in the late 60’s, Vista Seafood was relocated to our beautiful waterfront location, and renamed the San Pedro Fish Market and Restaurant. Today, 3 generations later, we continue the tradition of serving fresh seafood to the local community, and hope to continue doing so for many generations to come.
Mackey Ungaro opens Vista Seafood, a small corner store in the heart of San Pedro on 9th and Meyler. Here, he sells fresh fish to the locals from ice chests, and eventually puts his son, Henry Ungaro, and family friend Tommy Amalfitano in charge when they were just 15 years old.
After a successful first year, the business is moved down to the LA Waterfront, taking over Norms Landing Fish Market. Here, Henry and Tommy begin expanding the business by introducing new items like live crab and lobster, and shrimp cocktails. They also begin smoking their own fish, which eventually becomes crucial to the San Pedro Fish Market experience.
The smoked fish business becomes so successful, a new location under the name of Shamrock Seafoods is added in Wilmington to handle the growing crowds of hungry seafood lovers.
After over a year of around-the-clock construction, a brand new business is opened in replacement of the old Norm's Landing building. Made up of a full service restaurant, fast food counter, live crab and lobsters tanks, massive fresh seafood case, and seating nearly 3,000 people, this new location becomes what is now known as the world famous San Pedro Fish Market.
Today, San Pedro Fish Market is one of the largest restaurants in the entire country, has gained worldwide recognition, and will soon be opening its doors to two brand new fast, casual grilles! We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, we love what we do, and we hope to keep on doing it for generations to come. Welcome to the San Pedro Fish Market.
